Crump, Joseph , age 53, of Medway, died on Friday evening, December 11, 2009, at U. Mass Medical Center in Worcester of injuries sustained in an accident.

Born in Norwood on June 2, 1956, he was a son of Dorothy C. (Howard) Crump of Medfield and the late Herbert P. Crump. He was raised and educated in Medfield and was a graduate of the Keefe Technical School in Framingham.

Joe had been employed as a salesman with the Cleaves Company in Needham for several years and had previously worked in quality control for Charles River Data and Data General in Framingham. He also was the current director of functions for the Amvets Post 495 in Millis.

A longtime dedicated member of the Sons of Amvets at Post 495, he was past post commander as well as a past state commander of the Sons of Amvets. He was an enthusiastic NASCAR fan and a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Betty (DeRoche) Crump; a son, Edmund P. Crump of Danielson, CT; a daughter, Marion E. Crump and companion Brad Gorrie of Upton; a stepdaughter, Jayne E. Lavoie of Medway; four sisters, Kathleen Marks of Sutton, Elaine M. Perkins (Clayton) of Medway, Karen A. Rochat (Geoffrey) of Mendon, and Bernadette Suzedell (Eugene) of Cohasset; a brother Richard H. Crump of Boston; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the stepfather of the late Joseph A. Lavoie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, 82 Exchange Street, Millis, on Friday, Dec. 18th at 10:00a.m. Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Millis.

Visiting hours will be at the Roberts-Mitchell Funeral Home, 90 Curve Street, Millis, Thursday 4 – 8p.m.

If desired, donations may be made in Joe’s memory to the Amvets Post 495 Package Drive, P.O. Box 207, Millis, MA 02054.

Joe gave so much of himself to help people, it's a wonder he had time to take care of himself. For years, he helped me with the VA hospital program, the Brockton hospital Christmas delivery, Cub Scouts & Boy Scouts events, Millis Pride Day events. The latest was the October Turkey Shoot, for scholarship funds. There will be no way to replace Joe. He will be remembered & missed.
