To all the Howies. I'm so sorry for your loss. Sam was a wonderful man and it was through his help that Bob and I were able to get our home. He'd come out in the middle of the night if we needed him for our oil burner. He was always there for us in the good times and the bad. He'll be missed by all who knew him.

Peter and Beverly Temple (HMT3245@aol.com):
Our deepest condolences to all the Howie Family on Sam's passing. Sam was one of the first people I met on moving to Millis in 1953 and I found him over the years singularly thoughtful and responsible as a public official, businessman, and neighbor. Conservation restrictions obviously introduced complexities for assessors and I found that Sam virtually alone of his peers was willing to put in the time and effort to try to deal fairly with property owners in the maze of less-than-clear state regulations. In that as in all that he did he won my admiration. My most admiring moment, however, was when I first spotted him purring by in his stylish Studebaker--a sight that would have warmed the heart of Abe Sonnabend, long owner of Glen Ellen and as it happened last CEO of Studebaker.

Our deepest sympathy to all the Howies.
Peter
